Certification/Skills:

Ability to configure and administer diverse servers and computer operating systems. Familiar with WEB technology, database concepts and networking.

Required:

Server Administration:  Linux, includes installation, configuration, security and troubleshooting on-prem physical servers and virtual servers Along with AWS/Azure cloud servers. Experienced working with Dell Server Hardware.

 

Client/Server Application support: Backend systems support for client-server applications. Understanding of basic BASH scripting along with web technologies such as IIS and Apache. Understanding of SSL certificate implementation. 

 

Organizational Skills: Ability to understand project methodology and project management. Use of Microsoft Teams and M365 tools such as Planner.

 

Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate both written and orally to a wide variety of audiences. Must be able to think logically in solving problems and implement workable solutions. Must be able to resolve all problems existing and newly discovered to move the project towards completion.

  • Must be able to work in a team environment and be a self-contributor, meeting all project-related goals.
  • Candidates should have a broad scope of technical capabilities that will enable them to handle all aspects of application management as well as communicate and discuss technical design issues and problem resolution with Application and System Administrators.
  • Must be able to work with vendors and clients, both internal to IT and external, to understand the needs to scope projects and system environments to satisfy the overall objective of any project.

 

Availability: UTHealth System Administrators support a variety of mission-critical and 24x7 patient care-focused systems that must be readily available. In order to support these systems, there are many times that scheduled and non-scheduled after-hours work is required. There is also an on-call rotation that has been scheduled months in advance to help triage issues after hours and on holidays.

 

Additional skills that would be a plus for this position:

  • Experience with systems and database cloud support (AWS, Azure): including EC2, RDS, FSX and DynamoDB exposure.
  • Preferred knowledge of PostgreSQL Database as well as Oracle and MS SQL Server.
  • SCCM knowledge and experience: Basic understanding and client troubleshooting.
  • Scripting/Programming Technologies: BASH, Python, PowerShell, .NET, Java, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform
  • Knowledge of clinical systems such as EPIC, DICOM Imaging systems, and Digital Dentistry systems.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager, and Monyog for MySQL, as well as SolarWinds – Server and App Monitor, would be a plus.

 

 

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree, training in information technology or related experience in lieu of education.

 

Minimum Experience:

One (1) year of experience in information technology support and systems administration in diverse environments. Preferred experience with the network and server hardware, software, and security tools that UTHSC-H has deployed in its information technology infrastructure.

 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

 

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

 

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas. This role may require coming on-site at scheduled intervals.
