UTHealth Houston’s Office of Development is seeking an Associate Director of Corporate Engagement and Foundation Relations. This role offers the opportunity to secure philanthropic support from a diverse portfolio of corporate and private foundation donors invested in advancing UTHealth Houston’s mission to enhance community health through education, research, and clinical care.

 

The Associate Director will develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts from corporations and foundations. The successful candidate will support efforts to expand the institution’s Corporate and Foundation Relations program by fostering new relationships and matching UTHealth Houston’s educational, research, and clinical funding opportunities to donors’ interests. The focus will be on mid-level corporations and foundations with grant-making capacity that have existing relationships with the University and prospects not currently engaged with UTHealth Houston.

 

Applicants should have at least three years of frontline fundraising experience managing a portfolio of prospects and a proven track record of securing gifts of $25,000 or more. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, have the ability to understand and navigate the complex nature of our organization effectively, understand the structure of our clinical and research enterprise, and develop strong relationships with organizations that want to support educational philanthropy.

 

This position reports to the Executive Director of Development, Corporate, and Foundation Relations and offers a hybrid/flexible work schedule and opportunities for professional development. The office is located in the University Center Tower in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.

Position Summary:

In alignment with the direction provided by development leadership, this position is charged with the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private foundations and corporate partners of UTHealth Houston. Supports activities to grow the institution's overall Corporate Engagement and
Foundation Relations (CEFR) program.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.    Manages a portfolio of corporate and foundation donors and prospects.
2.    Works with prospect researchers to identify funding opportunities (RFP/RFA) that align with UTHealth Houston's institutional priorities and develop plans involving faculty to submit. 
3.    Formulates solicitation strategies in conjunction with development leadership and coordinates implementation.
4.    Works closely with prospect researchers, development staff, deans, faculty and volunteers to identify and solicit for project-driven requests.
5. Participate in solicitation calls and meetings. Prepares necessary materials for those calls, such as briefings and proposals.
6.    Assesses prospect interest, matching particular interests with school or institutional priorities, and then facilitates involvement of donors in the activities of assigned area as appropriate.
7.    Ensures appropriate stewardship of gifts, including providing informative and regular reports to donors.
8. Works within current organizational systems to implement efficiently and effectively; maintains communications modules and helps to modify or establish processes for continued smooth operations as needed by CEFR (grant calendars, stewardship, and other processes).
9.    Engage with the Universities' Sponsored Project and Technology Management teams as needed to understand and manage areas of potential risk and coordinate institution-level approvals.
10.    Travel as required to maintain relationships with donors and to cultivate new prospects.
11.    Ensures effectiveness and appropriate utilization of resources.
12.    May provide leadership, direction, and guidance for the staff within the area of responsibility.
13. May manage Human Resources activities for direct reports in regard to recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
14.    Performs other related duties as required.

Certification/Skills:

Demonstrated experience working within the non-profit sector and/or equivalent and transferable professional skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision; demonstrated energetic and enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to relate well with and influence decisions of a diverse constituency. Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing philanthropic gifts of $25,000 or above. Ability to systematically analyze complex issues and resolve problems quickly, using discretion with sensitive material. Ability to effectively communicate complex information clearly in oral and written formats to a variety of audiences. Skilled in working cooperatively in a team environment. Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar software.

Minimum Education:

At least a Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum Experience:

At least three (3) years of experience in corporate and foundation gift fundraising, preferably in higher education, healthcare or nonprofit.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
