Position Summary:

The Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI & ML) Programmer will develop, implement and support artificial intelligence/machine learning solutions to enhance clinical workflows and patient care delivery. This role will focus on translating academic AI research into practical applications that provide measurable improvements in operational efficiency, patient outcomes and care quality.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with clinicians, researchers and IT teams to identify high-impact areas for AI augmentation and create solutions tailored to organizational needs.
  • Design, develop and enhance AI/ML algorithms and models using healthcare data sets and machine learning best practices. Ensure outputs are interpretable, unbiased and clinically valid.
  • Lead integration of AI solutions into existing health IT systems including EHRs, medical devices and imaging equipment. Coordinate user testing and training. 
  • Continuously monitor, analyze and optimize system performance. Identify and address bottlenecks and stability issues. Recommend workflow and process improvements. 
  • Implement robust data pipelines, automation and MLOps to ensure reliable and scalable deployment of AI systems.
  • Stay up-to-date on AI/ML advancements and evaluate potential applications for the organization. Share knowledge and provide guidance to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards and data governance policies related to clinical AI systems and software development.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary collaborations to ensure the AI models align with clinical needs and priorities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     

Certification/Skills:

  • None   
  • Expertise in AI/ML algorithms, languages and frameworks for healthcare data Software engineering skills and understanding of clinical workflows
  • Ability to communicate complex topics clearly to cross-functional partners
  • Passion for advancing healthcare through responsible and innovative AI applications
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex AI concepts to non-experts

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant STEM degree required
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or relevant STEM degree preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • 1 year experience with Translational AI and programming in Python, C++, other relevant languages required
  • 1 year experience with LLM-based applications preferred
  • 1 year experience with databases like Postgres and tools like Redis preferred
  • May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount frequently to move objects.
