The Department of Neurosurgery of McGovern Medical School at UT Health Houston is seeking applications for a fellowship-trained stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgeon to join a large and vibrant department at all ranks – Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Our multidisciplinary department is comprised of over 45 clinical faculty and 20 research faculty. This is a full-time, tenure-track position and will be based at Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center, one of the largest and busiest conglomerations of healthcare facilities in the world.

The successful candidate will be expected to chiefly focus on the surgical treatment of movement disorders, a role in which they will (be-remove) collaborate with five movement disorder-certified neurologists with established practices in Parkinson’s Disease, Dystonias, Essential tremor, spasticity, and Huntington’s disease and expertise in patient selection, MER, and programming of all available devices.  Additional expertise in the neuromodulation of pain and/or psychiatric illness will be viewed very positively and will be expected to collaborate with our psychiatrists interested in clinical trials for depression, OCD, and other mental illnesses. The candidate will be expected to be closely engaged in resident and fellow instruction both in the operating room as well as at the bedside and to have a strong emphasis on teaching, research, and academic excellence. Proven track records in obtaining extramural funding, innovation, and high-impact publications will enhance candidacy for this position. He/she will also join the faculty at The Texas Institute for Restorative Neurotechnologies (TIRN) a multidisciplinary institute that harnesses advancements and developments in neuroscience, neuro-technology, and neuro-informatics to transform the understanding and treatment of brain disorders. The appointee will receive a research support package based on seniority and prior accomplishments. They may also be considered as a candidate for a McNair Scholarship at UT Health as appropriate given prior accomplishments.

Qualifications:

 

Board-certified neurosurgeon, fellowship-training in stereotactic neurosurgery and proven track record of clinical and research excellence.
