The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth) School of Public Health at Brownsville is expanding its faculty and seeking up to four (4) faculty members (Assistant/Associate Professor level) for tenure-track, open department, 12-month appointments.


Our campus serves the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas by conducting research to address key health disparities and border health issues in our predominately Hispanic community. The Brownsville campus strives to build an atmosphere of collegiality, diversity, inclusion, and enrichment.  Through our educational programs in public health, we are working to increase the number of underrepresented minorities attaining graduate degrees.


Position Key Accountabilities:


Successful candidates will be able to complement and expand existing foci on community-based, translational research programs.  The Brownsville Campus offers a wide range of opportunities for research on diseases prevalent in the local Hispanic population, including infectious diseases, metabolic diseases, and certain cancers. We have an interest in growing our programs in genomics, population health, telehealth, use of machine learning and AI with large databases, and conducting clinical trial research with a primarily Hispanic population.  Contributions to the school’s teaching, research and service missions is also expected.





  • Doctoral degrees in public health concentrations such as medicine, biostatistics, epidemiology, translational science, behavioral science, health promotion, and related areas.

  • Strong scholarly credentials, including research publications and an appropriate record of external research funding from diverse sources including federal programs.


Appointment will be at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience with competitive salaries and startup packages.
