Assistant or Associate Professor, Research - Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences, School of Dentistry
UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry seeks applicants for a full-time (1.00 FTE) tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will be available August 1, 2024.
The School of Dentistry seeks an outstanding candidate whose teaching, research, and service experiences have prepared them to contribute to its tradition of providing excellent education to our students and pursuing excellence in research and service. The successful candidate will show evidence of teaching expertise in Pharmacology, Physiology, and/or Biochemistry, as well as experience in health professions education. Experience with educational pedagogy, course development, and teaching integrated courses is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have research expertise with evidence of publications and potential for growth as an independent researcher. The position is highly competitive, and applicants must have one of the following degrees or equivalent: PhD, PharmD, PharmD/PhD, DDS, or DDS/PhD.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to, writing grants and securing funding to develop an independent externally funded research laboratory, contributing to scholarly literature via peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and serving as a research mentor for trainees including dental students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or residents. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to, teaching within integrated and discipline-specific courses to dental students, dental hygiene students, and residents in Pharmacology, Physiology, and/or Biochemistry. Furthermore, contributions to relevant service opportunities consistent with the mission of the department, school, and community are expected.
Qualifications:
- PhD, PharmD, PharmD/PhD, DDS, DDS/PhD or equivalent degree and postdoctoral training in Pharmacology, Physiology, Biochemistry, or integrated sciences, with a research focus on improving oral and overall health
- Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
- Teaching and research experience
- Publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national/international scientific conferences
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team of multidisciplinary faculty
- Commitment to excellence in scientific discovery and being on path to becoming outstanding in their field of expertise
- Fulfilling the common goals of the department, the School of Dentistry, and the University as a whole.
