Position Summary:
UTHealth Houston's User Experience team is looking for a Systems and Applications Specialist I. This employee provides support and lends technical expertise to departments and users for software, applications, security, and systems issues. You will work in our Medical School Building, located in the Texas Medical Center. You should have some experience supporting end users day-to-day with peripheral devices such as printers, software issues, and hardware problems. This will be done often face-to-face in their work area. You will need to have a background in supporting both traditional PCs that run Windows and MAC as their operating system.
Your work location is accessible by Metro bus and rail. It is a full-time role that is classified as exempt. It is eligible for full benefits. These include great healthcare options as well as a pension plan administered by the State of Texas. This employee will work 8-5 Monday through Friday.

Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Provides technical support for desktop computers and other peripheral equipment, including installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing equipment in a networked environment. Determines feasibility of repair or replacement of equipment and acts on issues as necessary.
2. Troubleshoots desktop services and systems and makes recommendations for improvements to increase productivity and address workflow issues.
3. Meets with users to determine software, application, or systems needs. Researches solutions and provides users with recommendations for appropriate solutions to address their needs.
4. Provide training to users on various systems, applications, and software as needed.
5. Documents each case, annotating all updates to ensure proper documentation of the resolution.
6. Maintains database of desktop services issues and resolutions for future reference.
7. Responsible for maintaining equipment and software inventory. Maintains files and documentation for various software installations.
8. Approve all IT lease and purchase requests.
9. Participates in the execution of rollouts/deployments, migrations, and upgrades.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
* A+, MCSE, and/or MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate) preferred.
* Good communication skills both verbal and written.
Minimum Education:
Associate’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education.
Minimum Experience:
Two (2) years of related experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
