Position Summary:

Research Assistant II will provide ready access to all experimental materials and equipment for the faculties, researchers, postdoctoral research fellows and graduate students as assigned, and may participate in the design and execution of experimental projects and help to collect and evaluate experimental data gathered during the research.

Position Key Accountabilities: 

Some of research project may involve hazardous chemicals or contact of experimental mice. As part of the research activity, the Research Assistant II is responsible for summarizing experimental results, preparing progress reports, and helping manuscript preparation and presentations. Will also be responsible for leading or guiding the work of undergraduate student employees working on the research project (maintaining records on assignment completion, acting as liaison/mediator between the undergraduate students and the faculty supervisors).  Research Assistant II is required to attend research lab meetings, project meetings, research seminars and other meetings as necessary. May assist setting up, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment as specified by supervisors, and may perform miscellaneous laboratory-related duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

 

Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department 

Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.

May participate in continuing education programs, workshops and seminars.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Successful candidate should have a good communication skill, attention to detail, critical thinking, computer skill for statistical and graphical analysis of data, and English proficiency.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

One year of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.  
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
