Registered Dietitian I, II, III Obesity Medicine Sugar Land
UTHealth Department of Surgery is hiring a Registered Dietitian to support their Obesity Medicine practice at their Minimally Invasive Surgical Clinic in Sugar Land. The Registered Dietitian will collaborate with an obesity medicine physician to help patients achieve their health and weight management goals with an emphasis on a whole-foods-based diet, behavior change psychology, and guided physical activity.
The Registered Dietitian will be required to travel to other clinical sites.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CDR Certificate of Training in Obesity Interventions in Pediatrics and Adults
- CDR CSOWM Certified Board Specialist Obesity and Weight Management

Position Summary:
The Registered Dietitian I is responsible for providing foundational nutritional care that includes, but is not limited to, medical nutrition therapy, nutrition assessment, diet modification, nutrition education, and intervention for the patient population. The role functions as a partner in scope, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to maximize patients nutritional status and improve clinical outcomes.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Essential Functions
- Nutrition Assessment: Conduct thorough medical nutrition therapy evaluation and provide care to low complexity patients in a multidisciplinary practice setting. Collaborate within an interdisciplinary environment to identify patients at nutrition risk or needing a higher level of care.
- Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation: Track patient progress and modify interventions as necessary. Progressively develop care plans to include identification and analysis of new information, patterns, and findings.
- Counseling and Education: Educate patients on nutritional guidelines and dietary plans. Identifies information asymmetries to support shared decision-making.
- Nutrition Diagnosis: Analyze assessment data to determine nutrition-related problems. Recommend and counsel patients, family, and/or caregivers on the appropriate nutrition plan to improve the patient's disease or condition management.
- Nutrition Intervention: Plan and implement interventions to address nutritional issues. Develop interventions using basic problem-solving strategies.
- Application of Research: Integrate evidence-based practices into patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
- Recognizes and exercises professional judgment within the limits of individual qualifications
- Knowledge of the nutrition care process.
- Builds collaborative relationships to encourage professional growth and development.
- Demonstrates effective problem solving and professional judgment to address needs.
- Ability to comply with various accrediting, regulatory, and agency authorities.
- Knowledge of best practices in areas of clinical nutrition and the ability to apply nutrition interventions to patients with multiple co-morbidities.
- RD - Registered Dietician certified by Commission on Dietetic Registration, by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required
- Licensed Dietitian by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation required
- Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education hours as specified by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and state licensure regulations required
Minimum Education:
Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) in Nutrition by an accredited or approved education program requiredMinimum Experience:
