Position Summary:

The Music Therapist is an established health care professional applying music as a recognized intervention within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of patients. The Music Therapist uses clinical and evidence-based assessments and music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within an interdisciplinary team to set priorities in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming with patients and families receiving care at UT Health Behavioral Sciences Center.

Status:      Full-Time

FLSA:        Non-Exempt

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Develops music therapy programs to assist patients toward stabilization and developing healthier and productive lifestyles.
  2. Administers music therapy programs to patient and instructs patient in the benefits of the activities in which they are participating.
  3. Maintains all documentation required for patient medical records.
  4. Develops structured programs that will offer the patient the opportunity to reduce stress, improve mood, increase activity level and social skills.
  5. Monitors and coordinates patient-care by collaborating with other direct care disciplines.   
  6. Documents patient progress and patient attendance records through a computer-based program while complying with department documentation requirements.
  7. Contributing to the effort toward BSC’s strategic goals and achievement programs.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Licensed as a Board-Certified Music Therapist.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in music therapy.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in Music Therapy in mental health care treatment and clinical experience with diverse populations.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

 

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
