Director, Enterprise Interoperability and Radiology

Position Summary

In response to our highly successful Epic implementation, UTHealth’s Information Technology department is seeking a Director of Enterprise Interoperability and Radiology.  This collaborative and innovative leader will partner with key stakeholders at UTHealth, UT Physicians,  Department of Radiology, Memorial Hermann and Harris Health to develop and maintain a cohesive, integrated enterprise radiology system.  The Director will oversee a multifaceted data exchange that includes over 100+ interfaces which, outside of Epic, is the largest of its kind in the country.  While leading a team of 5 staff members, the Director will collectively provide technical, strategic, operational, and architectural support to UT Physicians, UTHealth, the Integration team, clinical technology and radiology.   The inaugural Director plays an integral role in the development and implementation of initiatives to optimize the use of Epic and improve Radiologists efficiency and user experience.  Additionally, the Director will enhance radiology research analytics and drive to create an enterprise radiology team to support strategic objectives.  The ideal candidate will be proficient in Epic Radiant, Rhapsody and Fuji.  The Director must possess excellent communication as they will interact closely with senior level operational, clinical, and technical leaders within UTHealth, TMC and other UT organizations.  

Position Key Accountabilities

1.    Program manager for interoperability for Clinical Technology and key partners on Epic integration and technical matters

  • Facilitates communication to ensure alignment of IT assets with business and other patient care initiatives. 
  • Provides technical leadership and mentoring to clinical technology teams on integration, technical and epic matters. 
  • Collaborates with Integration director to establish best practice integration architecture.
  • Collaborates with Healthcare Analytics director to leverage Analytics assets to improve Radiology reporting capabilities and build foundation for data driven decision making.
  • Drives development of market research related to best practice and latest industry tools and technologies.

2.    Builds out Clinical and Enterprise Radiology in Clinical Technology at UTHealth

  • Works with Radiology and IT executive leadership to develop technology infrastructure, systems and processes that improve radiology productivity and efficiency.
  • Reviews imaging diagnostic trends, experience, approaches and work with UT Radiology and UTHealth leadership to champion emerging technology, regulatory requirements, analytics, and technology efficiencies.
  • Triages, assesses, and translates Radiology requests and needs that flow through the Directors to Clinical IT (Epic and others) and assists with understanding the voice of the customer. 
  • Supports day to day Radiology IT operations, programs, and new programs development.

3.    Enhances Radiology Research and Analytics and serves as program manager for AI 

  • Leads analysis and interpretation of data to generate actionable insights that support department’s strategic objectives.
  • Leads implementation of combined IT-Ops initiatives to maintain and enhance department operations
  • Engages deeply with Radiology to better understand operations and drive IT improvements to support department. 

4.    Develops and directs the strategic planning of multiple projects impacting Clinical Technology and Radiology; Oversees coordination of personnel and resources required to successfully complete projects.
5.    Builds and maintains collaborative multi-disciplinary relationships within and outside Clinical Technology, Radiology, UT Health, TMC and other UT Organizations.
6.    Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. 
7.    Manages Human Resource activities for direct reports in regards to recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. 
8.    Defines budgets, resource requirements and timeline expectations for application projects.
9.    Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Certification/Skills

Proven experience and/or certifications with applications that support Epic, Bridges, Rhapsody, Radiant, imaging systems, PACs, RIS, and Dictation. Requires strategic thinking, design, superior communication and analysis and project management skills. Knowledge of Radiology workflows, systems, and modalities.
 

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Masters or higher degree in related field (MHA, MPH, MBA, MD, etc.) preferred.

Minimum Experience

Required: Seven (7) years Epic implementation experience including Five (5) years Program Management experience
Preferred: Ten (10) years Epic implementation experience including five (5) years integration and program management experience

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
