UTHealth Houston is looking for a Systems and Application Specialist I who will provide desktop support to our Children's Learning Institute.  This employee provides technical expertise to departments and users for software, applications, security, and systems issues.  The users are primarily in a Windows environment and utilizing Dell computers and peripherals.  This role requires you to  resolve issues with an in-person hands on approach periodically.  There may be Apple products in the mix as well, so experience with Windows and Mac systems are an asset.  Candidates should have experience in handling multi-user support environments.  


This is a fulltime position that is classified as salaried and exempt.  You will qualify for all UTHealth benefits including employer sponsored healthcare coverage and a pension plan administered by the State of Texas.  UTHealth is a State of Texas agency, and recognizes all state holidays and prior state service.   You will also accrue both vacation and sick time in separate banks.  The office is based in the University Center Tower Building which is in the heart of the Texas Medical Center at the cross-streets of Fannin and Pressler.

Position Summary:

Provides support, and lends technical expertise, to departments and users for software, applications, security, and systems issues.


Position Key Accountabilities:

1.  Provides technical support for desktop computers and other peripheral equipment, including installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing equipment in a networked environment.  Determines feasibility of repair or replacement of equipment, and acts on issues as necessary.
2.  Troubleshoots desktop services and systems and makes recommendations for improvements to increase productivity and address workflow issues.
3.  Meets with users to determine software, application, or systems needs.  Researches solutions and provides users with recommendations for appropriate solutions to address their needs.
4.  Provides training to users on various systems, applications and software as needed.
5.  Documents each case, annotating all updates to ensure proper documentation of the resolution.
6.  Maintains database of desktop services issues and resolutions for future reference. 
7.  Responsible for maintaining equipment and software inventory.  Maintains files and documentation for various software installations.
8.  Approves all IT lease and purchase requests.
9.  Participates in the execution of rollouts/deployments, migrations and upgrades.
10.  Other duties as assigned.





*  A+, MCSE and/or MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate) preferred.
* Good communication skills both verbal and written.


Minimum Education:

Associate’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education.


Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of related experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.


Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.


Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215


Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
