Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston is looking for a Compliance Coordinator who responds to compliance reports, investigations, concerns, and inquiries on a daily basis.  This employee supports the university's Institutional Compliance program to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and university policies. They will assist in prevention, detection, and correction of noncompliance; also, promote and assist monitoring compliance activities, preparing reports, and coordinating compliance-related initiatives.  You will need to be able to perform triage on compliance issues, track work, and create reports.  You may be tasked with reviewing or assembling records supporting compliance training, working case management, preparing for meetings, coordinating processes within the compliance hotline, or completing special projects.  You must be a self-starting, detail-oriented problem solver.  Written and spoken communication will be critical, and it will help to be adept at working electronically, which includes typing quickly and accurately and capability within the Microsoft software suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.).  A background in editing or writing articles, data-related work, and/or education or experience with laws, regulations, and policies is preferred. We prefer candidates either with a JD or healthcare or academic compliance experience.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.Develops, tracks, and coordinates mandatory compliance training programs to ensure that all UTHealth employees are knowledgeable of and comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations as well as university policies.
2.Creates, organizes, and maintains up-to-date records and documentation of compliance activities, files, and findings. This includes helping to maintain compliance-related databases and files; ensuring accuracy, privacy, and data integrity.
3.Intakes, investigates, and reports on allegations of noncompliance received by the UTHealth Office of Institutional Compliance.
4.Stays informed about changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards that may impact the UTHealth Institutional Compliance program. Monitors relevant statutes, regulations, and rules that impact compliance initiatives and brings them to the attention of the Chief Compliance Officer.
5.Collaborates and supports enterprise risk management and other internal, regulatory teams and offices in their identification, tracking, and monitoring of risks. This includes for development of annual risk work plans or other related projects and activities. 
6.Collaborates to track and analyze compliance metrics and prepare regular reports.
7.Provides assistance to UTHealth employees about the UTHealth Institutional Compliance program. This includes responding to compliance inquiries from internal stakeholders and assists in addressing compliance-related issues.
8.Supports developing and delivering compliance communication materials to enhance employee awareness and understanding of compliance obligations. This includes working within Institutional Compliance webpages, developing or reviewing/revising compliance standards; procedures; and policies, and assistance with managing compliance-related documentation such as business processes; workflows; job aids; FAQs; and other process-related documentation or training materials.
9.Participates in compliance-related projects and initiatives, working closely with team members to achieve project goals.
10.Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Certification/Skills:

Effective communication and analytical skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Strength with analyzing data in Excel is a plus.
Strong administrative skills, productive, above-average typing speed and capability with electronic systems, software such as Microsoft applications and data.
Keen eye for accuracy.

 

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred (JD, MBA, MPA)

Minimum Experience:

Three (3) years of related experience; preferably in compliance, legal or audit; OR No experience with an Advanced degree preferably JD, MBA, or MPA.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
