We are looking for a Casual/ Hourly Community Health Liaison to join the UTHealth School of Public Health in Houston, TX, or the surrounding area. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a project focused on supporting individuals at risk for homelessness. Project HALT will focus on the science of preventing homelessness. Clients exiting the emergency department will be screened for imminent homelessness, provided resources, and/or engaged in homeless diversion services. In this position, you will screen clients, administer assessments, and provide homeless navigation services. Work is almost entirely remote but some limited in-person activities (e.g., a monthly meeting) may be required. A strong preference for individuals who speak Spanish fluently (approximately 80% of clients are Spanish-speaking) and have a background or history with psychology or social services.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Call potential participants to assess interest and eligibility
  • Conduct a telephonic assessment of background and needs
  • Provide homeless diversion navigation services.
  • Record client responses and job activities in a data management system
  • Attend team meetings
  • Other related duties as assigned

Certification/Skills:

  • Bilingual – Spanish/English preferred
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred:

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a complex schedule
  • Cultural sensitivity in working with diverse communities including ability to develop rapport with diverse individuals
  • Ability to work independently
  • Comfort with technology and data entry
  • Equipment will be provided but stable internet and a quiet environment will be needed for those who work from home 

Minimum Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background or interest in psychology, homeless or social services 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
