We are looking for a Part-Time (50% FT/ 20 hrs/wk) Communication Specialist to join the UTHealth School of Public Health. In this position, you will assist with promoting the accomplishments and activities of the faculty, students, continuing education, and outreach teams through digital media, including newsletters, websites, and social media platforms. You will also design and implement marketing and promotional campaigns for the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health events. This position will support the SWCOEH, a NIOSH-funded Education and Research Center, in its mission to improve workers' and communities' health, safety, and well-being. This position has the option of being fully remote or hybrid based on the preference of the selected candidate.

Position Summary:

Provides a broad range of communications support to departmental and research center programs including writing and editing, project planning,  and information dissemination activities. This is a half-time position, with benefits, either in-person or fully remote. Occasional in-person meetings and events required.

 Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Gathers information, generates ideas, and develops and influences the development of high quality, creative materials and programs.
  • Gathers information through research and interviews with faculty, staff and other appropriate sources, such as donors and patients.
  • Generates ideas for communication strategies and develops related promotional plans, tactics and materials.
  • Writes news/feature articles for print and electronic publication.
  • Develops and manages social media messaging on approved channels
  • Collaborates with department and center team members, faculty/staff, and university marketing and communications officials
  • Other duties as assigned

Certification/Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite or other creative software applications
  • Experience with DotCMS, Canva, Constant Contact or other content/learning management systems 

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field.

Minimum Experience:

  • Three years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.
  • Previous social media management experience is highly preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
