UTHealth Houston Revenue Cycle is hiring for a Coding Trainer to join their team of professionals. The Coding Trainer will be responsible for developing training courses for the department, planning and executing new hire training, researching, planning, and educating team members based on special requests for education from the management team, and more. Experience with teaching, data analytics, and leadership are all a plus!

Location: 1851 Crosspoint Avenue, Houston, Texas 77054 for 2 weeks or less for training. Must live in Texas (TX). This is a hybrid position. The person in this role has to come onsite anytime we have new hires and if we are training with an existing team member. Other times the position is remote.

Position Summary:

The Coding Trainer is responsible for providing education to newly hired and existing coding staff within the Charge Capture/Coding department under the direction of the Manager, Charge Capture & Coding and the Director, Charge Capture & Coding. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a coding operation onboarding and training program, reporting training progress and developing coding tip sheets and other training material for the Charge Capture and Coding operations.  The Coding Trainer works with coding leadership to identify and deliver education as needed and acts as a coding subject matter expert.  
 

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.    Deliver training sessions to coders and facilitate new hire onboarding process.  Assists with onboarding of new hires.  Delivers training on all aspects of the coder job responsibilities in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.  Performs concurrent coding reviews to ensure that coders are able to meet department quality and productivity expectations.  Monitors and tracks coder progress and provides feedback to remote coders in an effective, timely manner and in a way that ensures learning and collaborative communication.
2.    Adheres to official and UTHealth coding and billing guidelines and works collaboratively with coding leaders.
1.    Creates and delivers coding education material.  Works closely with coding and CDI leadership to deliver and develop coding education.  Creates job aids and handouts as necessary.  Assists in the creation and maintenance of a Coding Knowledge Center where training information is stored.  Provides process improvement recommendations on coding education and training needs.
2.    Performs other coding functions as appropriate, including assisting with coding backlogs as necessary.
3.    Adheres to established productivity standards and maintains tracking tools.  Stays up-to-date with all federal, stated and departmental coding guidelines and procedures.
4.    Performs other duties as assigned. 

Certification/Skills:

Must have one of the following certifications: 
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).  Knowledge of ICD-10 CM and CPT coding conventions.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, the ability to abstract data and maintain a database required
Effective verbal and written communication between internal and external customers
Excellent time management skills.  Ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.
 

Minimum Education:

Associates of Science degree in health information management or another related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

Minimum Experience:

4 years of experience in a Health Information Management (HIM) multi-specialty coding.  Strong professional (pro-fee) coding experience in multi-specialty clinic, EPIC/IDX and Cerner EMR experience is preferred.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
