Position Summary:
Assists Department Leadership with the execution of processes and procedures related to all aspects of the management and administration of the departments Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Visiting Scholars programs. The Assistant Director will assist and guide initiatives as directed by the Program(s) Leadership, Director of Management Operations, Chair, Vice-Chair for Education and other Senior Department Leadership. The Assistant Director is also responsible for assessing, monitoring, and improving program compliance with requirements set forth by the appropriate accreditation agency (LCME, ACCME, and ACGME).Position Key Accountabilities:
- Essential Functions
- Works collaboratively with leadership of student educational programs, residency program(s), and fellowship program(s) to plan, implement, and oversee quality improvement initiatives regarding onboarding, training, and administrative skills development.
- Responsible for leading and directing the departmental education efforts to expand the breadth and quality of the department's educational programs. Works to improve internal systems for both supporting and assuring compliance for accreditation and institutional policies. Plans, implements and collaborates with department education leadership faculty for program development towards the department's educational mission under the direction of the Vice-Chair for Education, Chairman and DMO.
- Acts as key departmental education liaison (internally and externally) between academic programs, affiliate clinical partners, institutional offices and accreditation agencies (ACGME, ACCME, TMB and LCME).
- Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Acts as the approver for all centralized education expenses. Manages hospital funding agreements for trainees in collaboration with divisional leaders and DMO as well as additional funding sources. Tracks and projects the Educational Program annual budget.
- Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
- Experience with program development within an academic health center.
- Training or education in principles interprofessional education and practice and team science.
- Collaboration skills to promote team building, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, risk management, product management, negotiation, and decision-making.
- Leadership skills to drive and motivate the team to achieve results, inspire and influence action, mentor, coach, and effectively transfer expertise to others.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and student database systems, e.g.
- Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education (TAGME) preferred
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field required
Master's Degree in Education, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
Minimum Experience:
6 years in medical education, healthcare service delivery or management required
5 years as a leader with significant graduate medical education oversight and management experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount frequently to move objects.
