UTHealth Houston’s Cizik School of Nursing is hiring for a Staff Nurse I to join their team of professionals. The Staff Nurse will be responsible for clinical support for both UTHealth Services and Employee Health, administrative support (calls, emails, etc.), clinical operation oversight (supply stock, mentorship, Lot Manager in EPIC, etc.), and more. The ideal candidate will have nurse triage, occupational health/employee health, and minor wound care experience. Experience with Epic and Smartsheet is a plus! The schedule is M-F, with no nights or weekends.

Position Summary:
Provides assistance to medical doctors. Assesses, develops, and implements, and evaluates a plan of nursing care for patients in an assigned area.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Assists doctors in the delivery of patient care in order to ensure quality service.
2. Ensures the efficient operation of the clinic or unit by proper scheduling and planning for optimum use of staff and facilities.
3. Assists doctors with routine office/surgical procedures performed under anesthesia, interviews new patients, takes blood pressure readings, records vital statistics, and administers drugs and treatment.
4. Provides patient education and counseling on issues such as pre-op and post-op care.
5. Makes decisions based on experience and training as to whether emergency situations exist. May administer CPR and/or other first aid measures.
6. Exercises judgment in matters involving referral of patients to agencies or health care professionals for other services where indicated.
7. Coordinates upkeep of patient charts, types reports, makes telephone calls and schedules appointments for patient visits and payment collection. May be responsible for compiling daily or monthly reports.
8. Schedules operations at hospitals including admissions procedures, use of operating room, x-rays, lab requirements, and special test for patients.
9. Prepares purchase requisitions of new equipment and follows up on delivery. Stocks and maintains necessary medical and clerical supplies for the clinic. Keeps equipment in sterile and working order for physicians.
10. May provide direction to other clinical personnel to ensure that proper procedures are followed.
11. Demonstrates various procedures and techniques to LVNs in order to ensure delivery of proper patient care.
12. Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
13. Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Current Registered Nurse Texas License required.
CPR certified.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school, or Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school, or diploma nurses.

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
