As a member of the Grants & Award Management Team, responsibilities may include facilitating the preparation, submission, review, negotiation, approval, and acquisition of grants and contracts for the University. Establishes and maintains awards and all required regulatory compliance in the Grants & Contracts and Financial systems. Issues negotiates and maintains all incoming and outgoing sub-awards. Develops and administers procedures designed to comply with appropriate regulations relating to the administration of government and private research grants, agreements, and other sponsored projects to interpret and apply such procedures and regulations. Acts as liaison to all grant-making agencies and sub-award entities to ensure timely and proper project administration. Maintains deep knowledge needed to interpret and apply federal, state, institutional, and granting agency rules and regulations that govern research and other sponsored project administration.
You will be working in our University Center Tower on the tenth floor. The position is eligible for all UTHealth benefits, including great healthcare coverage and a retirement program run by the State of Texas. It is a normal work week with standard hours. It is classified as exempt. This team typically works two days on-site and three remotely during the week.

Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Provides oversight and guidance to Principal Investigators (PI) and departmental staff on developing, submitting, and administrating grant applications. Works with PI and departmental staff to process grant applications for deadlines.
2. Negotiates grant agreements, budgets, and other related documents on behalf of the University. Assesses the administrative and contractual requirements of the funded project to negotiate proper terms and conditions based on the scope of work. Obtains the Authorized Representative Signature.
3. Issues, negotiates, maintains, and monitors sub-award agreements and purchase requisitions with local, national, and international collaborators. Establishes effective communications with subcontractors to ensure timely review and execution of these agreements.
4. May prepare and submit monthly sub-award FFATA reports to the federal government.
5. Processes, sets up and maintains all sponsored awards from notice of award receipt through account activation in the Grants and Contracts and Financial Systems. Ensures proper regulatory approvals and timely set up and maintenance of awards.
6. Works with faculty, departmental staff, and other institutional offices as needed to obtain and submit all necessary documents, reports, and other information requested by granting agencies.
7. Consistently applies, maintains, and disseminates technical knowledge of complex rules and regulations governing sponsored agreements as well as generally accepted accounting principles for grant applications and awards, including references to the federal Uniform Guidance. Maintains knowledge of various funding agency rules and regulations, institutional requirements, submission systems, and other relevant information as they pertain to grant administration.
8. Responsible for reviewing grant agreements and awards for terms and conditions and/or restrictions and establishes controls as needed to ensure full compliance with agency and/or sponsor, State, UT System, and institutional requirements. Responsible for the accurate setup of grant awards, coordinating account setup with the Post Award Finance team.
9. Acts as the primary liaison for the University administrative and financial functions for sponsored projects between PIs and extramural sponsors. Provides justification, documentation, approvals, and policy/guideline interpretation.
10. Distributes pertinent information relating to award provisions and obligations to Principal Investigators.
11. Participates in training university faculty and staff through meetings and forums to ensure the effective application of university policies, procedures, practices, and standards.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Exhibits excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Demonstrate effective time management and organization skills with the ability to be priority-oriented.
Ability to work in various web-based systems (PeopleSoft, Grants Management, eRA Commons, etc).
A certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification is preferred.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum Experience:
Three (3) years of directly related experience at a research university or institution.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
